The laboratory was established by professor László Pap at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Department of Telecommunication as Mobile Telecommunication Laboratory on 1st of January 1997. The laboratory provided a place for students to learn new knowledge on the field of mobile communication, and for members to research on new topics.
Since then the research areas expanded, and there are topics from the whole spectrum of the mobile communication. The main research areas are the following nowadays: development of intelligent measurement systems, application development, research of energy efficiency of access networks, quantum communication and informatics. The laboratory name was changed to Mobile Communication and Quantum Technologies Laboratory due to the significant work and results on quantum communication.
The laboratory trains/trained many graduated engineers in the last two decades and the members participate/participated in numerous national and international research project.
